Avatar: The Battle for Pandora

[Official Rulesheet]

Game Information & Overview:

Avatar: The Battle for Pandora is JJP’s 2024 release, by new designer Mark Seiden. Based on the events of the first Avatar film and its sequel, The Way of Water, the player becomes a Na’vi and braves the wilds of the Pandoran forests while facing off against the RDA, an organization bent on destroying any remnants of the Na’vi’s kind.

Rules Overview:

Skill Shots:

Plunge the ball to any of these shots to increase the meuia added to that shot for the rest of the ball by +1. Each award also has a super skill shot bonus, which extends the ball save timer and gives a specific award listed in parentheses.

Press the action button to enable super skill shot at any of these options. If the button is not pressed, the super skill shot will rove around the playfield instead.

Sivako Modes:

“Sivako” is Na’vi for “rise to the challenge”. Though it might be simple to accept a challenge and fail it, those who successfully complete what they started are strongly rewarded with meuia, or honor.

There are eight major shots around the playfield that start Sivako modes when hit three times. Sivako modes are not mutually exclusive for the most part; they can be played alongside any multiball mode but can otherwise not be stacked with songcord modes.

During Sivako modes, every lit shot made enables the action button to replenish arrows (flashing green). Quickly mash the action button to maintain your multiplier.

Completing any Sivako mode will award a time bonus based on how much time was remaining in the mode before it was completed. They cannot be repeated until all eight have been played, but completing the three shots while a mode isn’t available to start will instead award 5 **[meuia](#heading–

Two milestones can be earned from Sivako modes: one from completing one successfully, and another from playing all eight.

Songcords:

Songcords are essentially necklaces that reflect the life experiences of the Na’vi. They are comprised of several “tokens” representing locations or characters.

In **Avatar: The Battle of Pandora**, each shot represents a certain token. Once enough tokens have been found, the left scoop will light to start a songcord mode based on the found tokens. If a token of a certain type is given that you don’t want, press the action button to scrap the token; the first time this occurs during a game the player will be prompted to press it.

The token types are represented by the key below.

[details=”Tokens & abbreviations”] |Token|Abbreviation|Shot| | — | — | — | |Spider|S|Spider target| |RDA|RDA|Left ramp| |AMP Suit|AMP|Left scoop| |Omatikaya|O|Left orbit| |Tree of Souls|TOS|Upper left ramp| |Hometree|HT|VUK| |Rainforest|RF|Reverse scoop| |High Camp|HC|Upper loop| |Jake & Neytiri|J|Center targets| |Metkayina|M|Upper loop| |Tulkun|TK|Tulkun ramp| |Dive|D|Lowered scoop ramp| |Hallelujah Mountains|HM|Right ramp| |Rookery|RK|Right orbit| |Kids|K|Right targets| [/details]

During songcord modes, every lit shot made enables the action button to replenish arrows (flashing green). Quickly mash the action button to maintain your multiplier.

Complete any songcord mode to award a letter in PANDORA. There are also four milestones, two per songcord mode set: one for winning the first mode of a set, and one for playing three modes in the same set.

Omatikaya Songcord (A1 Modes):

These songcords are based on the first Avatar film.

Metkayina Songcord (A2 Modes):

These songcords are based on the second Avatar film.

Multiballs:

Both multiballs cannot be stacked with each other, but can be stacked with Sivako or songcord modes.

Though both multiballs have different display animations, they behave the same way. All shots are lit to qualify the jackpot at a flashing red shot lit in the order described below, and add-a-ball is enabled at each jackpot shot after collecting 10 other lit shots, indicated by a flashing red / green insert. Hitting any lit shot also allows the player to gather any lost arrows by mashing the action button.

The jackpot sequence is as follows: Jake / Neytiri targets, reverse scoop, scoop, home tree VUK, spider target, RDA ramp for super jackpot.

Battle of the Hallelujah Mountains (A1 Multiball):

Light the lock at the infinity mirror by completing Jake & Neytiri’s center targets. The ball can then be locked at either the left orbit, upper loop, or right orbit (the number of shots lit for lock decrease over subsequent multiballs). You can also lock balls with lucky orbit shots that bounce into the infinity mirror lockup (near the top of the left orbit), or super skill shots to that lockup. Lock 3 balls to start the multiball.

There are 3 stages of the multiball - each time you lock all 3 balls, the next stage will start in order.

Scoring a super jackpot during this multiball awards a PANDORA letter.

Milestones are awarded for completing 1 stage, or playing all 3 stages of this multiball.

Battle of Awa’Atlu (A2 Multiball):

Hit either lowered scoop ramp entrance (from either the lower or upper flipper) to raise the scoop ramp & enable the dive shot. When the scoop ramp is raised, shooting it from the lower flippers will send balls to the lower playfields. First, the player must use the flippers to complete the targets above the Pandora reef pop bumper. Once they have been completed, the ball will drain to the second playfield where they must defeat RDA’s crab suit using the flippers, with both direct target shots and orbit hits. Once defeated, the multiball will start.

The first crab suit requires approx six target hits; the second requires 12 and a shot to both orbits; the third requires 18 and two shots to both orbits.

There are 3 stages of the multiball - each time you defeat the crab suit, the next stage will start in order.

Scoring a super jackpot during this multiball awards a PANDORA letter.

Milestones are awarded for completing 1 stage, or playing all 3 stages of this multiball.

Other Scoring:

Lane Awards:

The inlanes and outlanes can be lit for awards that cycle with the flippers when lit. To light a lane award, either make a skill shot to the left inlane, or complete the four “kids” targets on the far right of the playfield. Multiple lane awards can be lit at a time.

From left to right, the four lane awards are:

Arrows (Event Multipliers):

Hitting ramps that feed the left or right inlane will add arrows that increase the multiplier on all scores for the next “event”, ie. the next mode of any type. The maximum event multiplier is 4x. You can also gather arrows during Sivako modes or songcord modes by making the flashing shots, and then mashing the action button (lit green) to collect them, even if they are stacked with a multiball.

While arrows are active, every flip counts! Each flip fires an arrow and once the current arrows on the inlanes have been depleted, the event multiplier will decrease by 0.25x. Well-timed, accurate flips are required to make the most out of multiplied scoring from arrows.

Two lane awards can make it easier to take advantage of arrows. “Max Toxin” at the left inlane maxes out the multiplier at 4x instantly, while “Unlimited Arrows” at the right inlane allows the player to take advantage of the multiplier without worrying about their flip counter and activates on the next event started.

Meuia Award (Honor):

Meuia increases by 1 every time a shot is made over the course of the ball, though skill shots can increase the meuia earned from certain shots by +1 for the remainder of the ball. Hitting the shot that started a Sivako mode 3 times after completing one, or shooting the high camp upper loop shot, will increase meuia by +5. After enough honor has been earned, the home tree VUK will light to collect a Meuia award.

Meuia awards all of the following, based on the thresholds listed below, but once the award has been scored, the player must collect the required amount of meuia to light it again (ie. they can’t collect duplicates of the same award in one shot).

Eywa Award (Mystery):

Shots to the two targets flanking the Tree of Souls shot (upper left ramp) add letters to EYWA. Once EYWA is completed with four target hits, the upper left ramp will be lit for a mystery award.

Mystery can award any of the following with limitations based on what modes are currently running:

Eclipse:

On Pandora, an eclipse happens once per day, causing the planet to completely change in lighting and atmosphere.

Switch hits advance the time of day on Pandora. Once the eclipse starts, the playfield lighting will immediately dim, and all shots & targets are lit to increase the value of the eclipse jackpot that can be scored with a strong shot to the right ramp, for as long as the eclipse is running. The eclipse jackpot also accounts for scoring during other events like songcord modes and multiballs, and incorporates a percentage of each award scored during concurrently active events.

Collecting eclipse jackpots worth at least 5M are one way to award PANDORA letters. However, only one letter can be earned per eclipse.

Bond Combos:

Shoot shots in quick succession to establish bonds with Pandoran wildlife. There are eight unique bonds to find, one per shot lit for bond (which includes any ramp or orbit excluding the high camp loop, or lowered scoop ramp).

Once all eight have been found, combo into the scoop to collect the bond jackpot worth the total value of each bond combo x the number of times they were made + a PANDORA letter.

Kickback:

There are three ways to light the left outlane kickback:

Milestones:

Earn milestones to add to end-of-ball bonus. Once all 10 milestones have been collected, the final wizard mode, Oel Ngati Kameie (I See You), can be started.

The 10 milestones are as follows:

(Milestones are currently not implemented.)

Extra Balls:

Extra ball is lit at the home tree VUK by:

End-of-Ball Bonus:

Wizard Modes:

Eywa’Eveng (Pandora Wizard Mode):

Spell PANDORA to light this wizard mode at the left scoop.

PANDORA letters can be earned in several ways:

Eywa’Eveng is a difficult multiball wizard mode with a short ball save at the start. The player has seven tasks to complete two times each, as listed from the display from left to right:

Each task completed scores a jackpot and lights a PANDORA letter. Light all seven letters to score a super jackpot worth the jackpot total and reset the process.

Oel Ngati Kameie (I See You Wizard Mode):

Complete all 10 milestones to light this wizard mode at the left scoop.
